Taylor-Johnson Gladly Passed Fiftty Shades Role

British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson thinks his wife has made the right decision by not asking him to audition for the role in a big screen adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.

Taylor-Johnson is overseeing the movie version of E. L. James’s erotic novel, which will feature Northern Irish actor Jamie Dornan as sadomasochist millionaire Christian Grey.

Even before his wife landed the director’s spot, his fans were urging him to take the lead role. He now admits it would have been a bad decision.

He told Nylon Guys magazine,

“I think it would have been the wrong kind of hype to bring toward us. It would have been kind of funny that this character that all these women fancy – he’s one in a million – and my wife picks her husband to play the part?”

“I would love to have done something together again, but it wouldn’t have been Fifty. We were both on the same page.”

The couple met in 2009, on the set of the movie Nowhere Boy. Taylor-Johnson portrayed a young John Lennon.

Just eight years ago, he quit school and moved to L.A. to become an actor. “It was a lot of crazy s–t I got up to for a couple years,” Taylor-Johnson says when talking about his Hollywood beginnings.

“I was pretty self-destructive at one point. I used to smoke 30 [cigarettes] a day, used to f–king drink nonstop. I’ve always been able to be on the f–king edge—be on the line, but then pull myself back.”
