Martin Freeman Says Prince William Is Fan Of Hobbit

British royal Prince William is a massive fan of The Hobbit, as Martin Freeman said.

Freeman portrays Bilbo Baggins in director Peter Jackson’s adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic novel. He met Prince William at the premiere of the first part of the film, An Unexpected Journey in 2012. He was shocked to see how much William knew about the book.

He told Britain’s Daily Mirror magazine,

“He was a nice guy. He is the biggest royal fan. We have fans everywhere, it is a very beloved book… He knew all the facts about Middle Earth and I think I kept him talking too long.”

“You know the protocol, you have got to let them say what they want to say and let them move on but I think I was boring him a little bit as I held onto him, talking about Middle Earth.”

“It’s amazing,” he said. “I’ve never known a reception like it. It’s a huge compliment to the film.”

When asked if anything made him think twice before taking on the legendary role, he explained, much like a certain hobbit we already know, that the time and distance commitment gave him pause.

“It’s a long time to not see your kitchen,” he said, before he continued, “I couldn’t sound any more like Bilbo Baggins.”
