Cliff Richard Claims He Is Innocent, Vows to Clear His Name

Legendary singer Cliff Richard asserted his innocence, vowing he would clear his name over allegations of a sexual assault in the 1980s.

The 73-year-old thanked his supporters on his Facebook page, promising to fight claims he sexually assaulted a schoolboy at an evangelical rally.

The investigation started when a man in his 40s accused Richard of assaulting him at a Billy Graham rally at Sheffield United’s Bramhall Lane ground in 1985.

“Hi everyone, this is just a brief message to thank all of you who have shown support, including those in the Press. I wanted to let you know that I’m doing ok and it goes without saying that I fully intend to clear my name. Just to be absolutely clear, the allegation is completely false and I will continue to cooperate with the police should they wish to speak to me again. Once again…many thanks!”
