You know that feeling when you’re cleared of two rape charges and four indecent assault charges? Neither do we; but legendary British actor Bill Roache certainly does.

Bill, who played Ken Barlow on the UK soap opera Coronation Street for 60 years, was accused of two charges of rape connected with an alleged attack on a 15-year old girl in 1967. What’s more, he was four times accused of indecently assaulting four females aged between 12 and 16 in the period from 1965 to 1968.

Last month Bill, who’s now 81, was acquitted on one count of assault relating to an accusation that he forced a 14-year old girl to have sexual intercourse with him in his car in 1965. The judge rejected the accusations stating there wasn’t enough evidence for a conviction.

Today, Bill was unanimously found not guilty by a jury for all the other assaults he was accused of.

In his statement, Roache said, “In these situations there are no winners and I think we should all be much kinder to ourselves. Now if you will excuse me I would like to get back to work.”
