Angela Lansbury Amazed Critics With Her Performance

Actress Dame, Angela Lansbury was a real surprise when she appeared onstage on Tuesday night in the West End of London, after almost four decades of absence.

The veteran actress made her stage comeback in the British capital in a revival of Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit. Her last appearance at the National Theatre was in 1975 production of Hamlet.

Lansbury portrayed Madame Arcati and her role was praised by Paul Taylor from The Independent newspapers, who described her as, “deliciously erratic” and “funny and endearing.” Charles Spencer of The Daily Telegraph gave the show a maximum of five stars, writing “Lansbury brings astonishing energy and comic panache to her performance. It is a comedy that still startles and delights… She is terrific… But the whole show is a treat.”

Quentin Letts added, “She is perfect. Makes it look effortless,” while Henry Hitchings of the London Evening Standard wrote, “Angela Lansbury’s return to the West End… is something to treasure… Her fans will be entranced by the charm, balance and precision she brings to such a well-known role.”
