6 Ricky Gervais Onscreen Characters Who Will Crack You Up

Over the past decade or so, Ricky Gervais has gone on to become one of the most loved comedians in Britain. Not only has he become a household name and a much loved star within the UK, but his dry wit and unique humour has had audiences in stitches on the other side of the pond too.

Ricky is probably best known for his portrayal of the cringe-worthy David Brent in The Office – the role that turned him into a household name. Having said that, he’s actually kept us laughing in a range of different roles and appearances as well.

1. Extras

Playing the character of Andy Millman in Extras, Ricky managed to get a host of huge stars to make cameo appearances from Kate Winslett and Patrick Stewart to Samuel L Jackson and Ben Stiller.

2. The Office

The Office became a huge hit in the UK, with Ricky’s character David Brent changing the way we perceive office managers and bosses forever more. While he was a cringe-worthy character, he had this special something that meant you just had to keep watching.

3. Night at the Museum

While Ricky only had a small cameo role in this Ben Stiller hit movie, his dry sense of humour and bumbling personality still came across perfectly during the short time that he was on screen.

4. The Invention of Lying

Playing the main character in this comedy fantasy gave Gervais the chance to show off his versatility. He didn’t quite play the type of character we have become used to, but provided a more subtle form of comedy in this movie.

5. Ghost Town

This is another popular fantasy comedy in which Ricky took the lead role. Again, he treated us to a more subtle, plot-based comedy performance in Ghost Town.

6. Stand up performances

Of course, Ricky’s stand up performances are a firm favourite amongst fans, and he puts on a great live show to keep his audience breathless.
