21 UK Celebs Who Survived Coming Out

2. Jaymi Hensley

‘The Union J’ boy band star has demonstrated that sexuality isn’t an issue in the pop world, being open about his status as a gay man since appearing on ‘The X Factor’. While being gay in the music world is not that uncommon, Jaymi stands out for being honest from the get go (other members kept their sexuality hidden until their band has dissolved).

After only a few months in the spotlights, the ‘Carry You’ singer has fast become a perfect role model for gay rights by being open about his own struggles.

“I was really fat when I was a kid – massively huge. It was a big thing for me because I was dealing with my sexuality as well as with weight issues,” he told Top Of The Pops magazine. “[It] made me want to do something with my life, and I have achieved more than all those people who gave me stick,” he added.
