13 British Oscar Winners



Being awarded with the Academy Award is probably the biggest honour an actor, actress or director can receive in their careers. The 86th Academy Awards is scheduled for March 2, 2014, and while we’re waiting, let’s remember some of Britain’s most notable Oscar winners.

1. Daniel Day-Lewis

In 2012, Daniel Day-Lewis received the Best Actor Award for his role in Lincoln. Day-Lewis also played some other notable roles in There Will Be Blood, Gangs of New York and The Last of The Mohicans. Throughout his career, Daniel won three Academy Awards for Best Actor.

2. Kate Winslet

Impressively, Kate is the youngest actress to obtain six Academy Award nominations. In addition, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for The Reader in 2008. Kate played some other notable roles in Titanic and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

3. Ben Kingsley

Ben Kingsley has a pretty impressive 40-year career in which he’s won an Oscar, Grammy, BAFTA, two Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild awards. In the 1982 film Gandhi, Kingsley won the Academy Award for Best Actor.

4. Helen Mirren

In 2003, Helen received damehood at a ceremony at Buckingham palace. But more importantly, she received the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the movie Queen in 2006. Besides that, she received some other prominent awards, such as four BAFTAs, three Golden Globes, and four Emmy Awards.
